Day 9: Dole plantation

We had breakfast at McDonald's today. Gordon had a filet o' fish and I had a large coffee (I ate a hotdog in a bun [leftover discounted pastry from Foodland] before leaving our hotel).

Then it we took a bus to the Dole plantation (second trip there) to try to break the world record at solving the world's largest maze. The bus ride was a little more than an hour long, and I passed the time away by reading my Orcs book. I really got into it during the bus ride.

We completed the maze in a little less than 20 minutes (it's hard to see, but the time stamp for my finish time is 1:20pm [I had to wait 2 minutes because there were other people in front of me... so I count it as a little less than 20 minutes]). The fastest time was 10 minutes... but we only need to do it in 14 minutes to get into the top 5.

Gordon "practiced" the maze a few times, outlining his course, looking for shortcuts (there are gaps in some of the walls), and trying to find the fastest route. I read my Orcs book for about an hour to an hour and a half while Gordon was doing this.

Then it was a bus ride back home, but Gordon needed the restroom along the way so we got off mid-way. I grabbed McDonalds for dinner while Gordon went to a mom-and-pop restaurant called Bob's bbq.

We hopped back on the bus and got to our hotel. Then we met up with Gordon's friend, who printed out Arby's coupons for us because Gordon found coupons online, but we didn't have a printer. There was an Arby's in the Ala Moana mall, so that's where we went. It turns out that the coupon offer was only valid on the "main land." So we bought some drinks and walked around the mall a little. Then it was back to our hotel for a shower after a sweaty day of running around.
