Day 5: Beach and move into Maile Sky Court Hotel

Damn, everything in Hawaii is so expensive. Look at this pack of Krazy glue.

Just kidding. It's about the same as back home.

Went to Don Quixote for breakfast this morning. I had a loco moco and a can of coffee (didn't have room to eat the spam musubi, so saved it as a snack for later).

Gordon basically had the same thing, except he chose a different brand of coffee and spam musubi.

We went to Ala Moana beach after breakfast. It was just as beautiful as the first beach day, but it was also a lot winder and colder. We were planning to go into the water, but chickened out when we actually got there. Tried to catch some sun, but it got too cold so we went back to the apartment.

After changing back to street clothes, we decided to walk to the Waikiki area and check into our hotel along the way (Gordon's friend's parents are coming back tomorrow, so we want to be out of there). This is a picture of one of the shopping area in Waikiki (it was an outdoor shopping area with little shops that basically all sold the same items [kind of like Chinatown's shopping areas]). We walked all the way to the end of the tourist part of Waikiki before turning back.

There's banana pies at the Hawaiian McDonald's! And allow me to spread the word... they are fucken amazing. I'm planning to bring 5-10 of these back to Los Angeles so people can try it (hopefully I don't forget). They also have banana pie a la mode (that's what Gordon's eating).

We're staying at Maile Sky Court Hotel.

This is our room. It's not very big, but it's a huge upgrade from the hostel.

These are what we can see out of our tiny window (don't let the picture fool you, the view from this hotel is definitely not as nice as from Gordon's friend's apartment). I had to reach my arm very far out of the window to get these pictures.

Dinner was in the Don Quixote area (there are a lot of little restaurants attached to the front of this supermarket). I have a bbq combo meal with a Pepsi from an out-of-place shack (it was a stand-alone shack in the middle of the parking lot, not attached to the supermarket) (that's just a random dude ordering food, I was too embarrass to take a picture of the place up-close... so I did a sneaky picture from afar).

Gordon ate at AAA BBQ (this is his second time eating from this place

We both had a little dessert afterward, fish-shaped waffle!! This is another little shop attached to Don Quixote. Gordon ate the one with red bean filling and I had the ham and cheese.

Bad news, we don't get free in-room internet. I'm in the lobby of the hotel right now (which has a ceiling over us, but it's not really indoors) with Gordon. Anywhoo, guess this mean less email checking and dotaing. Darn, I had access to free wireless at the hostel and at Gordon's friend's apartment... this sucks. I needed to get my blog done before drinking, or else I'll fall asleep. Gordon needed to drink before he could start working, or else he can't concentrate. This is him after downing ~2L of alcohol (Corona and Steinbeck).

We took a trip to our hotel's bar after i finished blogging. They gave us a half price coupon during check-in. Gordon's having an "Adios" (which he got for $3 cuz it was a special that day, so we saved our coupon). I decided that it wasn't my scene (didn't like the atmosphere), so I didn't drink. Just took a shower and went to bed while Gordon went back down to the lobby to work.

  6. Whoa, that BBQ thing Gordon is eating looks identical to something you can get at L&L Hawaiian BBQ here in the states! Also, banana pie sounds freaking amazing, and banana pie ala mode sounds even better. Did you happen to get sick after eating from that shack? Hehe, it just strikes me as a place that could give you the runs.
